National Honor Society Wins Award!!
Members of the Somersworth High School National Honor Society will travel to the Capitol Center for the Arts on Monday, November 10th, 2014, to receive a Volunteer Champion Award. The group is being recognized for their community service at the 2014 Spirit of NH Awards Ceremony.
NHS members are chosen based on 4 pillars, one of which is service. SHS NHS students are dedicated and deeply involved in both school activities as well as community activities. These students are known for their participation as tutors city-wide and their presence at the after school homework lab at the high school. Each year, they cater a teacher luncheon on teacher workshop days. Their work with the Red Cross, in sponsoring an annual blood drive as well as their work with local food pantries has been recognized by both these organizations. The group works tirelessly on many fundraisers and these funds are used to assist local families who may be experiencing a temporary setback. The group has also organized two large scale drives based on specific needs that have come to their attention: one Christmas delivery for local servicemen serving in Afghanistan , and another for students in Oklahoma who were left homeless following a tornado.
